A Grand Day Out: Stationary Engines at Becconsall
Sunday 18th May marked a major milestone for us here at Becconsall Living Museum & Heritage Park — our very first public event, and the official launch of the park’s regular opening hours!
We were absolutely delighted to welcome the brilliant team from the North West Stationary Engine Association, who brought along some of their favourite exhibits for visitors to admire. From the rhythmic chug of restored vintage engines, to stories of mechanical tinkering and industrial heritage, there was something to fascinate everyone — young and old alike.
The sun shone, the engines rumbled, and a lovely day was had by all. Families explored the site, enjoyed our scavenger hunt activity and guided nature trail tours, and many took their first look at our special time capsule, which will be buried later this summer. Our little pop-up shop also kept visitors going with snacks, drinks, and a chat.
We want to say a huge thank you to the North West Stationary Engine Association for helping us kick off our first season in style — and to everyone who came along to support us. Whether you stayed for an hour or the whole day, your enthusiasm made all the hard work worthwhile.
The park is now open every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm, with more events and activities planned throughout the summer. We’re thrilled to say the NWSEA will be back later in the year, so if you missed them this time, keep your eyes on our website and socials for future dates!
